PPCS was founded by Jill Wootten a Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 25 years experience specialising in childbirth and parenting issues.

Alongside many years of working in her own private practice Jill also has 12 years experience of teaching NCT ante natal classes to couples, 12 years experience working in a family focused counselling service, 8 years in a local counselling service and is a qualified nurse.

Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Jill has undertaken extensive training as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and currently holds three counselling diplomas…

  • WPF psychodynamic advanced diploma.
  • WPF psychodynamic agency diploma.
  • CSCT Integrative Counselling Skills & Theory (Advanced).

Jill is also UKCP registered and a member of the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling, which is her professional accrediting organisation.

As a requirement of her training she has also undertaken intensive psychoanalytic analysis over many years. She has had rigorous supervision of her clinical work throughout.

Alongside her private practice she also worked for Southside, a charity based in Bath. In the past she has worked for Wessex Counselling Service, a charity based in Frome, for 8 years.

Through her work with these charities she has been involved in teaching, training, mentoring and setting up a clinical library.

Ante Natal teacher

Jill worked for the National Childbirth Trust for 12 years teaching Ante Natal classes to couples. During this time she worked with people experiencing a wide range of issues such as Post Natal Depression, traumatic birth, premature baby, still birth, cot death, bereavement during pregnancy, adoption, diagnosis of childhood disorders, trauma experienced after sexual abuse, and many other related issues. She has also been a birth partner on three occasions, which has enabled her to develop an understanding of this role.

Having a family can impact on your life and your relationships in many ways. Counselling can help you to process this impact and enable you to move forward.

Nurse

Jill trained as a nurse at the Royal United Hospital in Bath and has worked as a theatre nurse and in casualty. Through this work she gained experience of working with people experiencing both physical and emotional difficulties.

Jill is also the co-founder of The Abbey Practice where her consulting rooms are based.
